Michael Owen makes his prediction for Chelsea’s Community Shield clash against Arsenal

The Community Shield match between Arsenal and Chelsea is nearly upon us and Michael Owen has spoken about the game and his prediction for Sunday’s big clash between the two Premier League giants. The former Manchester United and Liverpool striker predicted on Betvictor.com that the Blues will defeat the Gunners on Sunday.

The former England international stated that Jose Mourinho’s side will beat Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal 2-1 in London’s Wembley Stadium.

Owen stated on Betvictor.com, “The last two occasions the Gunners have won the Community Shield (2005 & 09) they have gone on to win the title and I expect to see the same scoreline as a decade ago the last time the sides met in the Wembley showpiece.”

“On that occasion two Didier Drogba goals gave the Blues a 2-1 victor over the Gunners’ whose sole reply came from Cesc Fabregas.”

“Chelsea are 29/20 to win in 90 minutes with Arsenal 19/10 and the draw at 5/2. A 2-1 success for the champions is 19/2 and that looks the value with Diego Costa recommended at 6/4 to find the back of the net during the 90 minutes.”

So, Michael Owen’s Commentary is Something We Definitely Didn’t Miss in the Off-Season

Michael Owen is coming in for some serious heat for his commentary performance during Arsenal against Chelsea in the Community Shield.

Despite being the big – sort of – return of English football after the off-season, BT Sport decided to go for arguably the most boring commentator since Phil Neville at last summer’s World Cup to call the action.

And that’s not went down well with fans.

The former Liverpool hero is already trending worldwide on Twitter as supporters lay into his commentary style.

But if any of the decision makers at BT Sport see the abuse, they’ll be thinking about a half-time sub for Owen.

Arsenal currently lead Chelsea 1-0 thanks to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s beautiful opening goal against their London rivals.

But the big talking point of the first-half is definitely Owen and BT Sports.

Here, we round up some of the funniest Twitter reactions to Michael Owen commentating on the Community Shield:

Arsenal legends reunited.

A number of Arsenal legends have been reunited for an advance screening of the new Invincibles documentary.

11 years after the club achieved the incredible feat of going the entire Premier League season unbeaten and winning the trophy, a tribute is being paid to the squad’s achievement.

The programme is being screened in the UK for the first time on Wednesday at 10.15pm on SkySports, after the club’s Champions League first leg against Monaco.

Six of the squad were pictured together on Monday night, along with former assistant manager Pat Rice.

French midfielder Robert Pires posted the image on his Twitter feed, joining himself and Rice were Martin Keown, Ray Parlour, Lauren, Sol Campbell and Jens Lehmann.

All six featured as interviewees in the documentary, which also includes Arsene Wenger on how he managed to guide his side to a once in a generation feat.

The only other club to ever win the title unbeaten in English top flight football were Preston North End in 1888/89 – a season which spanned only 22 games.

PALACE V ARSENAL…IS MICHAEL OWEN STRANGELY SMART OR RETARDED?

PALACE V ARSENAL...IS MICHAEL OWEN STRANGELY SMART OR RETARDED?Michael Owen’s warning for Arsenal, predicts dropped points against Palace

Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker expects Arsenal to drop points against Crystal Palace.

Arsenal face a tricky tie away to Crystal Palace this weekend, just days before their Champions League first leg against Monaco.

And it is the timing of the two games which causes BT Sport pundit Michael Owen to predict the Gunners will drop points at Selhurst Park in this weekend’s Premier League fixture.

Writing in his weekly BetVictor predictions column, he said: “The Gunners face Monaco in the Champions League at the Emirates on Wednesday and it is possible that they may have one eye on that vital last 16 tie.

“The Eagles have only won three of their last 14 PL games at Selhurst Park but would be happier than the Gunners with a draw at the weekend.”

It was this reasoning which led to him selecting a draw as the tie’s best value betting tip surrounding the fixture.

Arsenal’s first leg against Monaco in the Champions League last 16 is at home, and the Gunners have a chance to kill the game off as has been done to themselves in the past, the AC Milan tie they lost 4-0 at the San Siro in 2012 an example.

While Monaco are weaker than any of the sides they have faced at this stage in recent seasons, they beat the Gunners in the Emirates Cup in August, and Arsene Wenger will know if he is not able to balance his squad effectively in both games against the Lige 1 team and Crystal Palace over the coming days, two wins are not guaranteed.

Arsenal only narrowly beat Palace on opening day, and they will not only be tougher away from home but they have key midfielder Mile Jedinak returning.

If Wenger gets his team selection all wrong and they drop points, it will be exactly the worst type of preparation he could have wanted ahead of their Champions League quest.

Do you agree with Owen’s Palace v Arsenal prediction?
