Life in LASPOTECH

At the inception of the Institution, the first five Academic Departments were run in a manner that did not permit effective co-ordination of related disciplines, and with the increase in the number of programmes, it became imperative to reorganize the various programmes. As a result of this, in April 1982, all the academic departments which had risen to 29 were grouped into five Schools, each under a Director.

The Polytechnic has over 30,000 students running different programmes. LASPOTECH has earned a reputation as one of the foremost Polytechnics in Africa in the fields of Management, Agriculture, Engineering, Environmental Studies and Technology. This is seen in the placement of our diplomats in various organizations, government ministries and parastatals.

All the schools and departments are active in research and in teaching, both of which are subject to external assessment. The Quality Control body for the monitoring of Polytechnic Education, the National Board For Technical Education (NBTE), has mechanisms for monitoring teaching, learning as well as research.

The School Library

LASPOTECH Libraries are made up of the main Library at Ikorodu and two branch Libraries in our satellite campuses at Isolo and Surulere.

The classification of the resources of the Library is by the Library of Congress (LC). Our resources include books, journals, CD, VCD, DVD, e-books and other valuable resources. The computerization of the library has been completed using the X-LIB software which is a Nigerian Initiative.

There is one-unit compulsory first semester course for all ND I Students; Library Users Education, which is taught and evaluated by academic staff of the Library. Its objective is to introduce students to effective use of the library.

The V-Sat has recently been installed in the Library to enhance access to global academic resources available on the net. The library has created an ICT unit that assist lecturers and students to access various academic data base and resources on the Internet.

The library opening hours are as follows:

Monday – Friday: 8.00am – 8.00pm
Saturday: 9.00am – 6.00pm
Sunday: 12.00pm – 6.00pm
