As plans are being finalised for the burial of late socialite, and step-mother of a former Speaker of House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, Mrs. Adunni Bankole, those who were close to her, have continued to extoll her virtues, saying she was a wonderful, nice and kind-hearted woman. They spoke in separate interviews with SUNDAY PUNCH.
Adunni who was one of the wives of astute businessman and politician, Chief Alani Bankole, reportedly died in a Lagos hospital on Saturday January 3, 2015 at 6.05am.
She was said to have died of a heart-related illness.
A socialite and business woman, Mrs. Joko Oni, said she was shocked when she heard that Mrs. Bankole died.
Paying tributes to her, she said, “She was a nice woman. The news of her death really shocked me. I pray God gives her eternal rest. May God uphold and keep her children.”
On her part, Ms. Remi Oshodi, said she almost passed out when she heard the news of her death, describing her as a wonderful woman who had a large heart.
She said, “Iyalode Adunni Bankole was a wonderful woman, who had a large heart. She was a god- mother to my last daughter. I remember her last birthday vividly, I was there with some of friends. So, Iyalode is gone forever? It is quite sad.”
Dancer-cum-artiste, Ms Tessy Yembra, is also mourning the death of Bankole, whom she described as a friend of artistes.
She said the deceased touched the lives of many in the society.
She said, “She was a good woman who helped the less-privileged members of the society. She was a friend of artistes, be it movies or music.
“She was the grand matron of the Performing Music Artistes of Nigeria, Association of Nigeria Theatre Practitioners, Ikeja branch, and the Freelance Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria. We will all miss her.”
