A MAN from Victoria Falls is battling for life at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo after being attacked by an elephant early yesterday morning.
Police confirmed the incident that occurred in a bushy area near the Big Tree where another person was killed two months ago by a jumbo.
Obadia Sithole, 50, was transferred from Victoria Falls District Hospital yesterday morning with his intestines protruding and a deep wound on the back following the attack at around 5AM near Victoria Falls Border Post.
Acting Police officer commanding Victoria Falls District Superintendent Malvern Chitsaka said police attended the scene.
“I can confirm that we received a report of a person who was found lying unconscious after a suspected attack by an elephant and he was rushed to hospital but I can’t give details for now,” he said.
Sithole was taken to safety by a passerby while lying prostrate behind Ilala Lodge. There are different versions to the incident as some allege Sithole was looking for wood while some say he was looking for manure for his garden when he was attacked.
Sources said Sithole was in the company of a man identified as Isaac, who deals in game meat. Isaac escaped unharmed.
