Daredevil robbers have raided a pentecostal church, Salvation Givers Church International, located at 13, Onaiwu Street, Off 2nd Cemetery road, in Benin, carting away valuable items including cash from the church’s safe.
According to Punch, the church members were also beaten up by the robbers when they failed to identify the pastor to surrender the proceeds of the church.
Robbers Invade Church, Flog Church Members
The women and ladies in the church were also feared to have raped by the robbers after the bandits ordered their victims to lie down.
The robbers, numbering six, were said to have earlier raided four buildings in the area, killing two persons, one of whom was said to be a policeman, before visiting the church.
In their earlier raid, it was learnt that the armed men made away with a vehicle belonging to one of the victims, in addition to carting away other valuable items.
Joseph Edoigiawerie, the state Police public relations officer has confirmed the incident, claiming that one of the robbers has been arrested.
Robbery in recent times have risen to unprecedented level in Nigeria. Some have blamed the election season for the inability of the law enforcement officers to arrest and bring criminals to justice as the they mostly are preoccupied safe guarding politicians and their associates.
