Arsenal once again came short of the one goal that would have taken them through to the quarterfinals.Goals from Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey brought on a nervous last 10 minutes for Monaco but the French side eventually came through and progressed.

Monaco went through 3-3 courtesy of the away goals rule and will now join the likes of Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG and FC Porto in the last eight of the competition.

Here are the thoughts and reaction of Twitter to the game:

1.Pre-game with many people hoping for a miracle in Monaco

Come on Arsenal – make me eat all my ‘Wenger Out’ words. #MONvAFC — Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) March 17, 2015

Arsenal fan tonight (Man City tomorrow) as I want to see an English team in the last 8 & I want Wenger to have another crack at winning CL.— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) March 17, 2015

@Arsenal Make the stats lie. #MiracleInMonaco #StrongerTogether — PUMA Football (@pumafootball) March 17, 2015 Red army #Arsenal— Nicklas Bendtner (@bendtnerb52) March 17, 2015

2.Olivier Giroud’s goal in the first half

Bono, what you make of that Giroud goal? “WOAH-OH-WOAH! The sweetest thing!”
— Paddy Power (@paddypower) March 17, 2015

What a tremendous finish from Giroud & with his weaker foot too — Bergkamp & Bergkamp (@Orangeiceman10) March 17, 2015

Incredible goal by Giroud. He really is a top quality striker. 15th of the season. 7 goals in his last 8. #Class— (@Goonersphere) March 17, 2015

3.Aaron Ramsey’s goal with just about 10 minutes to go

Ramsey been injured for the majority of the season and still has what, 9 goals? Unbelievable— laurent koscielny ㅤ (@abruzzijj) March 17, 2015

At least peak 2014 Ramsey seems to be back.— GoonerGordo (@GoonerGordo) March 17, 2015

My son walked in the room Ramsey scored He’s not leaving this room until the last whistle.— AmandaAFC (@GoonerGirl1969) March 17, 2015

Ramsey just turned Water into Wine— Men in Blazers (@MenInBlazers) March 17, 2015

Ramsey is class though. There’s a clutch player. Quality.— Miguel Delaney (@MiguelDelaney) March 17, 2015

Mad how Ramsey has done more in like five games than Fraudbregas has in three months.— Matt (@CoqKnee) March 17, 2015

Great goal Ramsey- loads of time left be patient arsenal!— Philip Neville (@fizzer18) March 17, 2015

4.On Alexis’ header which could have made it 3-0

Can’t watch that Alexis header. Gutting— Kick Arse (@kickarseHD) March 17, 2015

That Alexis header killed me— Ehab Ibrahim (@EhabIbrahim77) March 17, 2015

That Alexis header reminds me of the RvP dink now.— S (@rsen4l) March 17, 2015

I’m still convinced that Alexis/Giroud hybrid/shot/header went over the line but the referee chose not to give it.(@IshaqN94) March 17, 2015

That Alexis header went in idgaf what you say, I want the goalline technology verdict

5.Post match reaction

Pathetic that our fans are happy with that, just like we are happy not winning anything. But we ‘tried hard’ which is good…— Stanley Morgan (@StanleyMorgan18) March 17, 2015

Why are so many Arsenal fans so forgiving of our endless failure? Be tougher, demand better, want more. Or we may as well be Spurs. #afc — Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) March 17, 2015

Better team lost. Arsenal out on away goals & at the last 16 stage again. Going out to Monaco is a mystery. #afc — Sam (@samuelJayC) March 17, 2015

That’s why you don’t fucking lose 3-1 at home. Losers.— Zana (@r_zana) March 17, 2015

The lads tried their best, played well. Ozil, Giroud, Kos, worked tirellessly. We now have to continue this form in the EPL and FA Cup.— Prince George (@Princegunner11) March 17, 2015

It’s so hard to be kicked out of the #ucl after such a result and such a game … #MONvAFC — Mesut Özil (@MesutOzil1088) March 17, 2015

It’s arguably the best way for Arsenal to go out: with a win, maintaining good form; Ramsey back in scoring groove; Giroud on target again.— danlevy1 (@danlevy1) March 17, 2015

The flip side of that result is that we are in brilliant form, 13 wins from the last 15 games is insane. Giroud with 7 goals in his last 8.— JG (@Artekkers) March 17, 2015
