The Governorship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has promised to enforce a local content policy to boost employment in Lagos State, as well as reserve 5 percent of the yearly budget for self-employment schemes by young graduates.
This, he said, would ensure that contracts awarded in the state bring profit to residents of benefiting communities by providing them with jobs.
Declaring that Lagosians would have the full benefit of contracts executed in their areas, Agbaje said his PDP government would compel contractors in the state to engage the services of the labour force in the benefiting communities.
He also exposed a scheme to encourage self-employment.
“We will reserve 5 percent of the yearly budget for those graduates, who are fresh from university, and this way, they will acquire the experience that employers demand of them,” he said.
Agbaje, flanked by PDP chieftains including his Running Mate, Mrs. Safurat Olayinka, and the state party Chairman, Captain Tunde Shelle, spoke yesterday during a town hall meeting in Shomolu Local Government.
Continuing, he disclosed that his administration would start a free health insurance policy for Lagosians, adding that unlike what exists under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), masquerading as a free health policy, the scheme will truly be free.
Agbaje stated that his administration would pay the premium of the health insurance scheme.
“Under the health insurance scheme, you will be free to choose your doctor and you can change doctor if you wish, so government will not choose your doctor for you,” he said.
According to him, this would encourage such doctors to be efficient, as they would be forced to work conscientiously.
Agbaje, who bemoaned the arrogance of the APC-led administration, described the party as anti-people despite its progressive toga and promises of making life abundant for the people, which he described as mere propaganda sixteen years after.
